GUESTHOUSE KUSUSHI was built during the Taisho period in the Japanese “western” architectural style. The eye-catching vintage sign says Ochi Medical Clinic or Ochi i-in in Japanese.

The first floor was used as a clinic until a few years ago when the entire operation was relocated to the neighboring town of Ocho. For a long time, the owner Dr. Ochi, wanted to find a use for the empty building. He understood our aim to revitalize the local area and agreed to let us renovate the building and open it to the public.

This recognizable building in the heart of Mitarai often features in movies, animation films and TV commercials.

The rooms are very bright, with large windows that open to reveal the colorful sea beyond. The windows are made from rare, vintage corrugated glass.
